The hornets attracted by the attractant follow the light in the trap and remain in the collection containers.
Please note that when using the trap, the local species protection regulations applicable in the region must be observed. If necessary, the trap must be checked daily for bycatch and, if present, this must be released in accordance with the regulations applicable in the region.

The VelutinaTrap was made to capture the invasive species vespa velutina, while allowing other insects and bees to exit without difficulty.
Hornets confined in the trap emit pheromones, luring additional hornets, enhancing the trap's effectiveness.
Insects never come into contact with the attractant, ensuring a clean and sanitary trapping process.
Usage Instructions for the Velutina Trap:
1. Assemble the trap following the provided instructions included in the package.
2. Pour the attractant into the trap by moistening the white lines located beside the holes.
3. For the initial use, fill the attractant up to half of the container (approximately 400 ML). The hornets are enticed by the liquid attractant, enter through the small holes, and travel along the container. They are subsequently trapped within the collection chambers. The captured hornet pheromones serve to attract other hornets.
4. Position the trap strategically in hornet flight paths, preferably in shaded areas on the left and right of your beehives, or hanging from a tree branch. Avoid exposing the trap to direct sunlight.
5. Regularly replenish the attractant to maintain trap effectiveness. Simply pour it into the holes adjacent to the white sticks. Use a modest amount of liquid for refilling, ensuring the container remains about half full, especially in high-temperature conditions. Completely empty and refill when the atrayente noticeably degrades and fails to lure hornets.
Additional Guidelines:
- When filling the atrayente into the trap, hold the cord, press the latch, and lift the roof to access the container.
- For assembling and separating the collection containers, follow the provided instructions. To separate the collection containers, rotate them approximately 30 degrees to the left or right and remove with caution, as hornets may emerge from the holes.
- Place the trap near your apiary, but avoid locations where the internal temperature of the collector is high, as this may affect trap performance. Opt for shaded areas to the left and right of the apiary and be sure to hang the trap along hornet flight paths.
Follow these instructions to effectively use the Velutina Trap and protect your bee colonies from hornet infestations.
- For the capture of fertilized hornet queens (foundresses), very early in spring, in temperate regions already in mid-February.
- Since the trap is highly selective, you can leave it in place year-round to capture the hornet workers as well.
- In fall, for the capture of fertilized hornet queens, in most regions from October.
